For the moment, however, there is at least one bill that we really dislike and are asking all of our members to help us oppose.  If you have not done so yet, please contact your local legislators about this bad bill.

AB 2416 (Stone) is a public employee union-backed measure that could pull your business and/or properties into labor disputes that you have nothing to do with, passed the Senate Appropriations Committee last week and is awaiting action on the Senate Floor.

We vociferously oppose the bill and starting last month, have asked all or our members to contact local legislators to educate them about the impact of this measure.

AB 2416 (Stone; D-Scotts Valley) Unproven Wage Liens.  This bill creates a dangerous and unfair precedent in the wage and hour arena by allowing employees to file liens on an employer’s real or personal property, or property where work was performed, based upon alleged yet unproven wage claims.  The bill is on the Senate Suspense file and will move to the Senate Floor next week.

Although the bill has been amended TWICE this week, the changes are “window dressing,” and do not change the substantial pieces of the bill that could drag you into a labor dispute you have nothing to do with.  Even with these amendments the bill allows your property to get dragged into a labor dispute you had nothing to do with.

The CalChamber has identified both bills as a “Job Killer,” and a large coalition of business groups are marshalling forces in Sacramento to educate legislators about negative impacts of these bills.  But we need your help locally.  Please contact your local Senator and advocate they vote against this bad measure.
