The Southern California Association of Governments held a one day meeting with almost 500 community and business leaders as well as elected officials to focus on the 50 years that have passed since President Johnson signed into law the “War on Poverty.” Since that time California has faced a severe growth in poverty led by the astounding poverty statistics of Southern California making it one of the highest poverty areas in the country.

One of the organizers of the event was our very own Greg McWilliams President of Newhall Land and Chair of California Business Properties Association (CBPA).

During his remarks McWilliams lamented the fact that there are thousands of jobs being blocked by abusive uses of such laws as CEQA. This was echoed by speaker after speaker.
